“Right in the Thick of Things-December Wood Ducks!”

Why in the world are they going way back in there?  We’ve all been here, right?  Well at least close as one possibly can get without loss of life, limbs, perhaps your hat, or even good footing with the constant threat of that ever so feared cold late winter dunking and has anyone seen the dog?  Those “ducks” seem to almost seek out the most inaccessible place known to mankind, but, if you were to be fortunate and skilled fortunate enough to maneuver through the flooded hardwood timber bottomland, the hunting could be spectacular.  This is never so truer than seeking out the elusive the North American Wood Duck!  Oh, perhaps a skilled hunter could persuade one or two to come close by with a wood duck whistle but more than often they have a mind to be where they want to be.  I too, have had an opportunity to participate in a few old-fashioned wood duck hunts and good one is a memory to be relived in favorite hunting stories around a fireplace with a good dog, friends and a good coffee or hot apple cider in hand! I hope this brings back fond memories, please enjoy!!
